A Lasswade lifeguard surprised herself when she sunk a hole in one at Melville Golf Club recently despite only taking up golf eight years ago.

Sheena McKenzie (57), scored her ace on the 95-yard, par-three sixth hole at Melville Golf Club, and the 23-handicapper was rewarded with membership of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1Club and a specially-commissioned, commemorative timepiece.

Sheena from Bonnyrigg, who only took up golf at the age of 49, said: “It was my first hole in one, totally out of the blue. The ball just bounced perfectly between the two bunkers then disappeared.

“We just walked up and there it was sitting in the hole.

“It will probably never happen again, so it was good to get it. I’ve only been playing for eight years. Some of my friends that have been playing for 35 years have never got close to a hole in one, so there has been a bit of banter!”
