Midlothian Indoor Bowling Club will be named ‘club of the year’ at the Scottish Indoor Bowling Association (SIBA) Awards Night in September.

At the ceremony in Glasgow the Dalkeith-based club will be presented with the Thomas Taylor Ltd Club of the Year Award, given to the club which gained the most points over the indoor season.

The club’s secretary Colin Flower said: “It’s only the fourth year this award has been in existence and it’s the first time we have won it.

“It’s been an absolutely fantastic year. The pinnacle really was three of our representatives winning Scottish titles then going down south to win the British Isles gold medals.

“So it’s been a phenomenal year, absolutely tremendous.

“A few years ago our gents and ladies teams both won the Scottish title, but this year surpasses that.

“As we have three Scottish champions we got a lot of points this year.

“Although it was quite close at the top of the points table, five or ten points in it.”

Midlothian won the Scottish and British Isles titles in the gents pairs, ladies fours and ladies under 25s.

There will be a number of other presentations at the awards ceremony on September 26, some of which involve Midlothian Indoor Bowling Club.

Stacey Laidlaw has been nominated for Ladies Player of the Year and for Ladies Young Player of the Year.

It has also been announced that Janette Conlan will be inducted in to the SIBA Hall of Fame for her services to bowls. In addition, there is a public vote for Team of the Year (this is different to Club of the Year). There are 11 nominations, one of which is the Midlothian British Isles winners who were so successful earlier this year.

This is a public vote that can only be cast on the SIBA website, www.bowls-siba.co.uk
