Newtongrange boxer Stephen Tiffney has received a funding boost ahead of his first professional fight atMeadowbank Stadium next month.

The Scottish amateur middleweight champion will step into the ring on September 5 with his opponent still to be confirmed.

Tiffney has been busy securing sponsorship recently and has received £500 from the Dale Bennett Memorial Fund, set-up in memory of the Mayfield teenager killed in a knife attack in 2011.

The boxer is delighted with the funding boost and said: “Dale’s dad Gary has given me a donation so we are going to get t-shirts made with ‘Dale Bennet Memorial Fund’ on them. I knew Gary anyway so I got speaking to him and he decided to help me out.

“I’m more than happy to put Dale’s name on the
t-shirts. It should be good exposure, it’s good to get the charity’s name out there.

“I would like to thank my other sponsors – Woods Roofing, RJK Gas and Blakes Barbers in Newtongrange. I get my hair cut at Blakes so the woman there decided to start sponsoring me. It helps me out quite a lot.

“Training is going well. I have been training hard. I’ve still got quite a bit to go. I’ve been doing more training than in the past, as being professional you want to do as much as you can.”
