Midlothian teenage sensation Colin Noble Junior was the star of the final two rounds of this year’s Protyre Formula Renault Championship.
Noble claimed his first win of the season in the penultimate race and second place in the final race, both held in the same weekend at Silverstone.
Having taken his first category pole position earlier in the day, Colin went on to deliver a faultless performance in his winning race. Under huge pressure, the 18-year-old took first place by just 0.060 seconds on the run to the chequered flag.
Colin then followed up his win in the penultimate race with a similarly tenacious drive in the final race, gaining a well earned second place from starting fourth on the grid.
His superb ‘lights to flag’ drive in both races sealed Colin’s best weekend of the season by far and helped him secure a creditable fifth place overall in this, his first year of the Championship.
Colin’s team mate, Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi, the grandson of former double Formula One World Champion, Emerson Fittipaldi, was the overall title winner, having won 10 out of the 15 races in this year’s Championship.
Speaking after the race, Colin said: “I’m really happy with my win. At the end I was just looking for the line and making sure my nose was ahead.
“We made a few changes after qualifying and we were really quick early on, it started to get close at the end though and I made a couple of mistakes. It’s a fantastic result.”
