Dalkeith travelled to Arboretum to face Inverleith RFC on league business, hopeful of maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.
Twice a Dalkeith player was over the touchline, but both times the referee was poorly positioned, but gave a Dalkeith penalty. Dalkeith tapped and drove the Inverleith line. Chris Allan crashed over for the opener, 0-7 with Clugston’s conversion.
Inverleith were fielding a big physical pack, but this week Dalkeith’s first up tackling was much more sound and although there was plenty of huff and puff from Inverleith, the Dalkeith forwards seemed reasonably secure in defence to that point.
After a couple of pick and drive phases, Inverleith lost the ball on the Dalkeith 22. Paton eluded two defenders before releasing Stephen Hamilton, The full back beat three defenders before offloading to his brother for the run in, 0-14.
Stephen Hamilton sprint under the posts extended the lead to 0-21.
