Run of wins halted for Bonnyrigg’s Leslie

snooker: Michael Leslie’s run of victories at this year’s World Under-21 Snooker Championships being held in Montreal, Canada, ended when he lost 5-2 to Thailand’s Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon at the last 16 stage.

Leslie, who went into the match full of confidence after finishing top of his qualifying group, shared the first four frames with Thirapongpaiboon to go in at 2-2 at the mid-session interval. However, Thirapongpaiboon went on to win the next three frames to book his place in the quarter finals.

Thirapongpaiboon will now goes on to play England’s Declan Brennan in the quarter finals. Akani Songsernsawad (Thailand), who Leslie defeated in the qualifying stages, beat England’s Callum Downing, and will now play Li Hang of China. Nick Jennings (England) plays Anda Zhang (China) and Noppon Saengkham (Thailand) plays Duane Jones (Wales) in the other quarter final ties.
