Meadowmill Sports Centre in East Lothian provided the setting for this year’s Lothian School Badminton Festival.
The festival used the coaching expertise of Lothian Disability Badminton Club, who delivered the session for more than 70 young people. The day was split into two sessions, with a morning and afternoon time slot offered in an attempt to allow more young people the opportunity to participate. There was representation from four local authorities – Musselburgh Grammar (East Lothian), Saltersgate (Midlothian), Kaimes, Woodlands (both Edinburgh), Donaldson’s, Cedarbank and St Joseph’s PS (all West Lothian) – with 83 young people registered to take part.
Christine Black, Badminton Development Officer at East Lothian was responsible for planning and delivering the event, with support from the coaches from the Disability Badminton Club. Support was also provided from the students of Edinburgh College who interacted with the young people throughout the day. This gave the young people a fun taste of Badminton and hopefully increased their interest in the sport.
