The county secondary schools golf season was in full swing recently when up to 60 pupils competed to become Midlothian Schools Champions.

The annual series, which is run by Midlothian Schools Golf Association, culminated at Broomieknowe Golf Club on April 27 when St David’s High pipped holders Dalkeith to the title of Team Champions.

The final day of the season also saw Ryan Thomson (Dalkeith High) and Jessica Dalgetty (St David’s) crowned Boys and Girls Handicap champions. Archie Scott was given a special award for achieving a hole in one at the 3rd hole at Newbattle Golf Course at the match on the 23rd March.

Five of the young golfers will now go on to represent Midlothian at the Paul Lawrie Scottish Schools Championship held at Murrayshall Golf Course in Perth on June 11. Ross Millar and Jordan Wright from Dalkeith High, and Daniel Gorman from St David’s High, will make up the boys team. Sisters Jessica and Emily Dalgetty from St David’s will compete in the girls event.
