The sun was already attempting to make an appearance through the clouds as club volunteers laid out pitches and put up the tents for the 49th running of the annual Penicuik Sevens tournament on Saturday.
And so the day concluded with the President’s Cup final, contested between Preston Lodge and Lasswade. A cagy contest ensued with both teams probing the fringes, running good supporting lines and keeping the ball alive whenever possible. Some end-to-end play, and a couple of good scores from each team entertained the crowd and there was little between the two at the half-time whistle. However, after the break, the Preston Lodge team turned up the heat and eased clear. Lasswade hit back with scores of their own near the end of the game but the gap was too great and another trophy was on its way to East Lothian. Final score Preston Lodge 38-26 Lasswade.
