Former Saltersgate pupil Scott Quin is happy with his IPC European Championships silver medal despite coming within a second of gold.
Quin (24), from Loanhead, recorded a time of 1:07.95 as he was narrowly beaten by Dutchman Marc Evers in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke SB14 final in Eindhoven last week.
He said: “I was really chuffed to get silver and it was pretty close for gold but to be honest I didn’t expect to get such a quick time. On paper I was ranked third fastest, and all I looked at expectation wise was to swim my race sensibly, because sometimes I can be a headless chicken. But I kept it calm and composed and it worked.
“This silver medal gives me drive. I know I can go faster, so I can be up there and try to beat him (Evers).
“It gives me the motivation to work hard in training.”
