A visit from former GB International gymnast Steve Frew was fitting reward for pupils who organised a recent Aquathon in Dalkeith.

As part of a project with Sky Sports, 38 pupils at Dalkeith’s St David’s High met the challenge of swimming between 100-300m and then running 1000-2000m.

Completed on November 16, the Aquathon helped senior pupils develop their leadership skills by carrying out publicity work, Powerpoint presentations and taking photographs on the day.

PE teacher Gordon Macpherson who co-ordinated the programme, said: “The youngsters were a credit to the school and everyone gained something from the opportunity. Sky Sports provided a loyalty day when Steve Frew spoke to a variety of pupils.

This went down exceptionally well with many very positive comments from both staff and pupils. The pupils came away feeling motivated and inspired.”
A Spring term project with Sky Sports is in the pipeline for pupils at St David’s.
