Table Tennis: Penicuik’s season draws to a close

With the Edinburgh and Lothians Table Tennis League virtually over there remains only a couple of matters to be decided for Penicuik Table Tennis Club.

In Division 3, Penicuik’s fourth team played their last remaining fixture of the season against Corstorphine 5 with a third place finish in the division still up for grabs. Gavin Hunter, Phil Daly and Gregory Leplatre knew that with Corstorphine’s sixth team winning their final match of the season they required at last a draw to secure third place. What looked like being a simple task against a team with only five wins from the season turned out to be anything but straightforward. With both Phil and Gregory struggling it was left to Gavin Hunter to try and secure the vital point for the visitors - Gavin won three whilst Phil and Gregory won one each as the Penicuik trio did just enough to earn a draw and give themselves an excellent third place finish in the division.
