newbattle under-15 football side produced an exceptional series of results to reach the quarter finals of the Dana Cup in Hjorring, Denmark recently.
The Dana Cup is the second biggest youth tournamnet in europe and the under-15 age group attracted 126 teams from 24 nations with Newbattle the only school side participating .
Newbattle warmed up for their group with two friendly matches which saw a 3-1 win over German side Untermissen/Ochsenberg, who were to reach the last 32 of the event, with goals from Darren McCraw (2) and Declan Heron. The second saw a 0-0 draw against Finnish side Bones, who were an under-16 side.
A tough group awaited the Newbattle boys with Swedish south east league winners Viljan Ik, Norwegian pro youth side Voss FK and Tonsberg from Bergen. The Swedes were tipping themselves to go far in the tournament but Newbattle came out of the blocks quickly and never gave their opponents time to settle.
