The Olympic torch will be carried through Midlothian next June.

The official London 2012 Olympic torch relay will make its way from Musselburgh to Dalkeith before heading to Penicuik via Lasswade, Loanhead, Bilston and Milton Bridge.

Details of times and the exact route through the county will be announced next year.

The torch, carrying the Olympic flame, will be in the county on Thursday, June 14, on day 27 of the 70-day relay from Land’s End to the Olympic Stadium in London.

Announcing the route this week, the London Organising Committee said that 95 per cent of the population would be within 10 miles of the Olympic flame. It will also travel through every local authority area.

The torch will be carried by inspirational torchbearers, each of whom will have a story of personal achievement or have contributed to their local community. The final torchbearer places will be confirmed in February.
