It may be a small group, but Penicuik Petanque Club is big on ambition.
Established last year, the club attracted interest from 25 potential members and hosted its own tournament welcoming players from across Scotland.
Outlining the club’s aspirations to Penicuik and District Community Council, founder Colin Stewart explained the group’s aim to create a purpose-built playing area, known as a piste, in Penicuik.
Mr Stewart said the club had become involved in Midlothian Council’s community sports hub initiative in Penicuik. The Sportscotland-backed project is looking to promote and increase participation in sport and leisure activities.
He added that the club hopes to be able to raise their profile through community hub events and access sources of funding.
