For some of us, running for the bus is too much, but there is a dedicated band of athletes who think nothing of running 100 miles for the hell of it.

One such competitor is Tim Doyle, a member of Penicuik Harriers, who has taken ultra running to a whole new level.

Tim (47) ran his first marathon more than 25 years ago. “I have been keeping fit since 1984, when a friend persuaded the booze-addled, overweight, student smoker that was me to run the Cardiff Marathon.

“Not a year has gone by since then that I haven’t run a marathon or five and things are getting worse – now I have to run a 100-mile race each year as well,” explained Tim.

“Hooked and completely obsessed” by running, Tim has clocked up the miles, taking part in marathons, half-marathons and 10k races.
