Promising start to season for Eskvale

Eskvale I 8, Watsonians III 1

Dalkeith Campus was bathed in sunshine for Eskvale’s first league match of the season against Watsonians.

Eskvale got their campaign off to a flyer when Shirley Gallacher scored with a rasping strike from a penalty corner in the first five minutes. Lorraine Nicholson-Bennett sonn got the second.

The third goal came courtesy of another penalty corner and was duly slotted away by Gallacher.

Watsonians had their share of the ball early on but Eskvale’s defenders captain Lynn McNeill, Eileen McHale and Briony Gladstone worked hard making life difficult for their opponents.

The fourth came from good interplay with Gallacher drilling the ball into the circle for Nicholson-Bennett to score.

For the fifth goal, Gallacher manoeuvered the ball into the circle then smashed it into the roof of the net securing her hat-trick.

With support from midfielder Gayle Buchan, Nicholson-Bennett slotted in the remaining goals to bring her personal tally to five.
