Just one week to go before the historic Emirates Scottish Junior Cup second round ties and the Midlothian “Famous Five” Junior football clubs have experienced mixed fortunes this month en route to the national tournament.

Newtongrange Star, after wins over Longside and Broughty earlier in the month, lost their tough South League Cup final last Saturday 3-0 against holders Linlithgow Rose.

Fife and Lothians Cup first round action saw a brave Dalkeith Thistle go down 3-2 away to Super League’s Kelty Hearts while it was revenge for Glenrothes as they edged out Penicuik Athletic 3-2.

There was a huge sigh of relief on Saturday as Arniston Rangers grabbed their first championship win of the season out of six played in an excellent away 2-1 win at Armadale Thistle.

Bonnyrigg Rose had to battle hard for a share of the points in their Super League match drawing 2-2 against hosts Bathgate Thistle.
