Secondary school pupils put on a fine display of hockey competing at Beeslack Community High’s first festival recently.
The number of teams competing was reduced due to some late call-offs, but the four teams which did take part gave a good account of themselves. As both Dalkeith High and Beeslack were missing key players, they both found it hard to compete the strong Penicuik High squads.
The two most closely contested games were Penicuik All Stars and Penicuik S2, which saw the All Stars just get the better of their young club mates with a 1-0 win, and the match with Beeslack against Dalkeith which ended 1-1. While both Penicuik squads put on superb displays of indoor hockey, Beeslack and Dalkeith gained in confidence as the festival progressed.
The next high school hockey festival will be at Dalkeith High School (outdoors) on Wednesday.
There are opportunities to play hockey outwith school. There are two community clubs - at the Dalkeith Schools Campus on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and at Beeslack High School, Penicuik, on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm.
