Tribute to Racewall driver

There was a minute’s silence prior to the start of Saturday’s meeting at the Racewall, to mark the death of former National Hot Rod driver Malcolm Chesher on April 23.

Malky, as he was more commonly known, was one of Scotland’s top hot rod drivers and had raced at Cowdenbeath during its Spedeworth days, Armadale, Newtongrange and then back at the Racewall at Cowdenbeath.

Local drivers in the Formula IIs were Ally Noble (Newtongrange) and Craig Wallace (Tranent), while in the saloons, locals included Chris Carey (Loanhead), Gordon Alexander (Bonnyrigg), Robin Copland (Gorebridge) and Tam Melrose (Dalkeith).
