TV snooker debut for Bonnyrigg’s Michael

Bonnyrigg’s Michael Leslie proved no pushover for snooker legend John Higgins as the pair fought out a closely-contested match in Germany last Friday.

Making his televised debut in the opening round of the Arcaden Paul Hunter Classic, the Midlothian youngster overcame early match nerves to fight back from 2-0 down.

And with Higgins “on the ropes” in the decisive fifth frame, the 19-year-old might have gone on to cause a major upset had he not missed a vital chance.

He said: “I have never been so nervous in all my life. It took me a while to settle – shots during the first frame that I wouldn’t normally think about looked impossible.

“I didn’t expect to win, I just wanted to make a good account of myself, and to come back from 2-0 down I think I did that.”
