Football returned to the new-look Ferguson Park on Saturday as Whitehill Welfare prepare for life in the new Lowland League.

Last season’s Scottish Cup conquerors Inverurie Loco Works were the visitors on a sun-kissed afternoon in Rosewell, as Welfare got off to a winning pre-season start.

The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute when Wayne McIntosh nodded Danny Noon’s knock-on into the path of Gary Shearer, whose dipping right foot volley looped over the head of Andy Reid in the Inverurie goal.

That goal proved to be the only one of the game, as both teams shuffled their decks in the second half and Welfare held on to get off to a good start as preparations for life in the Lowland League begin.
