Agents of SHIELD (Friday, 30 May, C4, 8pm)

What’s It All About? It’s the season finale, and Phil Coulson and his team attempt to fend off the HYDRA threat.

For newcomers, HYDRA is the Nazi-like organisation set up in the 1940s. They have spent decades planning to bring down freedom, democracy and everything that SHIELD stands for.

In recent blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier (spoiler alert), it transpired that HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD, and the shockwaves from that movie have been resounding through this series. Aside from series regulars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen and Iain de Caestecker, Samuel L Jackson also makes a guest appearance as Nick Fury. Jackson says: “I don’t talk about Marvel’s business. None of us do. If they ask (president of Marvel Studios) Kevin Feige and Kevin says, ‘We’d like for you to do it,’ I do.”

There’s more Marvel TV shows in the pipeline.

Not only has AOS been renewed for a second run, but our own Hayley Atwell gets to reprise her role as Captain America’s love interest in the pending series Agent Carter.

Following Ben Affleck’s turn as Daredevil in 2003, a TV version of Hell’s Kitchen’s blind crime fighter is also coming to the small screen.
