A renowned musician recently spent the weekend with two Midlothian bands, passing on his skills before playing a joint concert with them.
Robbert Vos, a Sterling Euphonium Artist from the Netherlands, spent the Saturday holding a free workshop with around 20 players of varying abilities and ages attending. Robbert led them through the essential basics of loosening up and various breathing exercises, all designed to give a solid foundation on which to build further techniques.
On Saturday night he rehearsed with St David’s Brass Band and provided extra tuition. On Sunday morning Robbert held a workshop with Lasswade High School brass pupils. This was followed by a rehearsal with Lasswade High School Concert Band.
In the afternoon, there was a very successful joint concert with Robbert Vos, St. David’s Brass Band and Lasswade High School Concert Band, which was well attended.
The programme included Benedictus, the fabulous Hummingbird, Philip Sparke’s Pantomime and Symphonic Rhapsody.
Robbert then tutored St David’s Youth Band on Sunday evening, followed by more individual tuition on both Sunday and Monday night
