Newtongrange actress Ashleigh Gray will soon be treading the boards at the Edinburgh venue that ignited her passion for musicals.

The former Newbattle High pupil will play Elphaba in smash hit West End musical Wicked at the Playhouse from November 19- January 10.

Ashleigh (32), is delighted to be playing the venue.

She said: “I’m so chuffed I can’t tell you. I’m lucky enough to have played Edinburgh in the past few years but I have never played the Playhouse.

“And that’s the place I used to go to as a kid. I fell in love with musicals there, so it’s going to be really nice treading the boards there.

“I had always sang and danced as a child, but I guess I never really thought you could do it as a career until I started to go to places like the Playhouse.”

Ashleigh has acted in countless West End productions and sang with stars such as Susan Boyle and John Barrowman.
