Karen Koren: DVD gifts will keep me happy

WE have all had a lovely Christmas with friends and family. Too much food, drink, cakes, sweets, family, games.

We seem to have done well with board games, three different monopoly games – the Edinburgh monopoly, the ordinary one and a new one that doesn’t use money only credit card! A Norwegian version of Scrabble, for my daughter Katy to practice Norwegian. She is learning and doing very well.

The best game we played was pass the pud, where you had to shout out names in alphabetical order before the music stopped. It ended up with family members throwing the pud at each other in frustration – good fun though!

The merriment of the season was short lived though, as I had to take to my bed with a bout of flu on Boxing Day. Was meant to be going out to Dirty Dancing so pretty disappointed. I have given in and am in bed watching the pretty bad television on offer. Cars, Happy Feet, Enchanted, How to Train my Dragon and Alice in Wonderland – this was the BBC viewing, all pretty old and not really classic enough. At least we can give thanks for Miranda.

The best thing then is to watch the Christmas gift DVDs – I bought Brave for Roland, Katy’s boyfriend so I could watch it. Also got the Lilyhammer series – brilliant! Then there’s the Morecambe and Wise Christmas special which seems to be all over the telly again this year. Can’t get much more Christmassy than that.

Hope you all had a good one too!
