Preview: Summer Holiday; Church Hill Theatre

GET on board! Get on board with the double-deckers... It might be September, but that hasn’t stopped Lothian Youth Arts & Musicals Company (LYAMC) embarking on a Summer Holiday at the Church Hill Theatre this week.

Founded in 1998, the amateur company, which boasts a membership of 120 youngsters, aged between eight and 25, jive back to the heady days of the swinging 60s for their latest production, Peter Myers’ and Ronald Cass’ Summer Holiday.

The original movie musical was a huge box office hit in 1963, with Cliff Richard starring as Don, a role that would be first played in the stage version by a young Darren Day.

So, look out the sunglasses, slip on the sandals and hop on board LYAMC’s London double-decker for an evening of classics such as Bachelor Boy, Dancing Shoes, Foot Tapper and, of course, Summer Holiday.

Tonight, you can even sing along.

Summer Holiday, Church Hill Theatre, Morningside Road, until Saturday, 7.30pm (Saturday matinee, 2.30pm), £7.50-£10, 0131-476 6945, [email protected]
