Glencairn Care Home named best in Capital

Staff at an Edinburgh care home have been recognised for their stellar efforts after topping the city’s rankings following a recent inspection.

Renaissance Care’s Glencairn Care Home, located in the Grange area of the Capital, has received an exceptional care review, after an unannounced visit from the care inspectorate – the best grading of any care home in the local area.

During the review, Glencairn received two ‘excellent’ grade sixes for the quality of the care home setting, with homely rooms that offer views across the city, and the exceptional leadership standard of manager Jozi Stables.

A grade six is the highest mark available, describing performance which is sector leading and supports experiences and outcomes for people which are of outstandingly high quality.

Additionally, the care home received three “very good” grade fives from the inspectors, marking “major strengths” on how the home supports people’s wellbeing, how good the staffing is, and how well the care and support is planned.

As part of the assessment, the 26-bed home was praised for ensuring that every resident is treated as an individual with their own likes, interests and needs taken into consideration, which includes personalised care plans, meal choices and room decor.

The review also noted the ongoing commitment to maintaining each of the residents’ independence with a focus on their wellbeing. Manager Jozi, who joined Glencairn last July, was commended for the developments made in implementing continuous consultation with the residents and relatives to improve the care provided at the home.

Residents referred to her as “inclusive and well informed”.

Recently Jozi even included residents in the recruitment process for hiring new staff members to ensure that they are part of all decisions made within their home.

Part of the inspection required inspectors to sit down and discuss with residents their experience in the home. All responses were extremely positive and complimentary to the staff, service and management.

One resident told the inspectors: “The home is excellent, I am really pushed to find a fault, it’s the lap of luxury.”

Jozi said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the results from our recent inspection. It’s a real testament to the dedication of our team who work extremely hard every day to go above and beyond for our residents.

“Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure that residents feel at home and comfortable, with their individual needs catered for – the small details really matter.”
