The award was announced at Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce’s annual Food and Drink Awards, held for the first time by video links because of the pandemic.

The Chamber’s chief executive Keith Barbour said few restaurants had done more to attract national attention to the regions’ hospitality sector than the 120 seat Indian-Bangladeshi establishment.

Choosing the winner had been a tough task, with judges taking the decision on the basis of service and ambience as well as food, he added.

The Radhuni overcame other finalists which also included Chez Roux at the 5 star Greywalls Hotel beside Muirfield golf course in Gullane, the Cavaliere in Dalkeith which has been run by the Crolla family for almost 50 years, The Kitchen at Restoration Yard in Dalkeith Country Park, and the Craigie Hotel at Penicuik.

Habibur Khan, The Radhuni’s managing partner, said: “This latest chapter in our continuing success story is due to our customers, staff and suppliers who have helped us adapt to the massive challenges of the pandemic. It is only because of them that we have even managed to remain open for business.

”We’ve consistently focused on quality in everything we do. It’s gratifying to be recognised by experts in an area of Scotland which has many marvellous restaurants and is another reason for us to look forward with renewed optimism to 2021.”
