New limited-edition beers from Dalkeith’s Cross Borders Brewing and Wise to shine a light on bank fees through ABVs
Dalkeith-based Cross Borders Brewing Company has created a new limited edition range to demonstrate the fees when sending money abroad.
The partnership with global technology company Wise focuses on the three countries in Europe that send the largest amounts to support friends and family.
Together, they have created ‘Bière Sans Frontières’, a limited beer range that includes three nation-themed beers with alcohol percentages that mirror the average remittance fee charged when sending money abroad from the UK, France and Germany.
Research by Wise reveals 93 per cent of people who have sent money abroad in the last two years are unaware of the true cost of international transfers.
Craig Hannigan, a spokesperson from Cross Borders said: “Like most people in the UK, we were surprised by the cost of sending money abroad and so jumped at the chance to shine a light on it through something that many people have a better understanding of – beer. Each of our three beers has been specifically crafted to reflect these costs and we hope this drives awareness and pressure for them to be reduced.”
Arun Tharmarajah, head of European banking at Wise: said: “Transparency in payments really shouldn’t be that hard for providers to show. We hope to spur providers into action - and raise the bar for transparency standards."
The range is available to buy from www.crossborders.beer/shop , with proceeds going to the Choose Love refugee charity.
