Shawfair-based company named Energy Supplier of the Year
Shawfair-based People’s Energy Company has won Energy Provider of the Year at the Moneyfacts Consumer Awards 2021.
The energy firm positions itself as the "people’s energy champion against unfair gas and electricity prices” and has achieved the accolade from Moneyfacts on the first time of entering.
Analysts at Moneyfacts reviewed the offerings of a number of energy suppliers before creating a shortlist on which members of the public were invited to vote and ultimately decide upon the winner.
Michelle Monck, head of digital, Moneyfacts.co.uk, said: “This is the first time People’s Energy Company has been nominated for this award and the feedback from customers has seen them scoop the top spot straight away.
"This recognises its commitment to putting its customers (which it calls members) first and to making energy affordable for all.”
Karin Sode, Co-Founder of People’s Energy, commented: “On behalf of the team here at People's Energy, I would like to say a huge thank you to all our members who voted for us and helped us win this fantastic award.
"To be voted Energy Provider of the Year is a massive achievement for our team and recognition of all the hard work and commitment they have put in over the past four years.
“As a community interest company, we are committed to helping build a fairer, greener, better world for everyone. To see our values recognised in this way is both encouraging and motivating as we continue to grow and take the company forward.”
People’s Energy was founded in 2017 and is the only community interest company energy supplier in the UK. This means it doesn’t have private shareholders. Instead, it put its customers and staff at the heart of what it does. As a social enterprise, People’s Energy pledges to give 75 per cent of its profits back to its members through an annual rebate.
People’s Energy offers green electricity from renewable generators in the UK. Its energy is sourced in thirds, across wind, solar and hydro-electric and 97 per cent of this is certified as renewable. It also offers a 100 per cent green gas tariff for business members and has plans to introduce a green gas scheme for domestic members too.
