Straiton Retail Park's new terrace of shops completed

Just over one year after the start of construction, the highly anticipated 25,500 sq ft retail terrace at Straiton Retail Park has reached completion and welcomed the first store.

Starbucks is now open at the new terrace for takeaway only due to Covid restrictions.

Given the green light by Midlothian Council in November 2019, the eye-catching £13 million terrace development, built and managed by Peel L&P Retail Parks, will also be home to a new Greggs and Archers Sleepcentre, with opening dates yet to be confirmed.

Having celebrated the opening of the new M&S Simply Food at Straiton Retail Park in December 2020, further stores The Card Factory, The Works and Trespass will all aim to open their doors in Spring 2021.

The park’s owners believe the new retail offer will improve the shopping experience by bringing a new tenant dynamic to the park, providing more choice and convenience for the surrounding communities.

Speaking about the completion of the terrace at the Straiton site, Peel L&P Retail Parks development manager Leah Taylor was pleased that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic couldn’t stop the development in its tracks completely.

She said: “The Terrace at Straiton Retail Park was originally earmarked for completion in Summer 2020.

"With the coronavirus pandemic affecting works slightly, we’re pleased to welcome Starbucks to the park for our customers to enjoy.

"I would like to thank Muir Construction for their hard work and commitment over the past 12 months.

"We can’t wait for our customers to see the final result.”

Works and investment in the popular Midlothian retail park will continue into 2021 as plans have been submitted for the redevelopment of the lower terrace, with £15 million set to be spent on improvements to make room for new property partners.

Leah added: “Defying the negative headlines surrounding retail, Peel L&P Retail Parks continue to attract national stores across a number of its parks, attracting an annual footfall figure of more than seven million visitors at the Straiton site alone.

"The parks are aided by dedicated investment to help improve the facilities for tenants and customers.”
