In a message on Kaimes School’s website, acting headteacher Karen Watters said: “The safety of our staff and pupils is our main priority and we are working closely with the health protection team at NHS Lothian to follow all national guidance.

“Our teaching staff will continue to provide support for learners and their parents through providing virtual learning experiences,” she added.

A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: “Following several confirmed Covid-19 cases at the school and a high number of pupils and staff having to self-isolate because they have been identified as close contacts, the school has closed. This decision was taken following a meeting with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection team and the City of Edinburgh Council.
