The plans for the site of the Dundas Buildings on Polton Street include a 40 bed home with 30 en-suites , ten rehabilitation flats and a multipurpose leisure hall.

Up to 44 extra care one and two bedroom flats are also planned for the site of the old St Mary’s Primary School.

The new facilities will be supported by care home staff.

The architect commissioned by Midlothian Council, Collective Architecture, has now submitted what’s known as a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Midlothian Council’s Planning Service.

Local residents and other stakeholders will be able to view the plans and make comments as part of the consultation process in March, prior to the full application being lodged in 12 weeks time .

Further details of how to get involved will be shared on the council’s website at www.midlothian.gov.uk, on the council’s Facebook and Twitter social media in the coming weeks .

Council leader, Councillor Derek Milligan (Lab) said: “We are very proud of our council care facilities – Cowan Court in Penicuik, for example, is award-winning.

“These proposed new homes and flats will be state-of-the art, providing modern, well-equipped and comfortable accommodation for those in need of high-quality care.

“We’re looking forward to hearing local people’s views to make sure we deliver the best possible facilities for our residents.”
