Out of Edinburgh’s 111 primary and secondary schools, these 12 were classed as over capacity during the 2018-2018 academic year. While nationally, just 5% of schools are overcrowded, in Edinburgh, the figure is more than double that, at 11%. Social distancing could prove to be even more of a challenge for teachers and students at these schools as the Scottish government announces plans to reopen them in August. The data has been sourced from the Scottish Government’s School Estates 2019 report – which is the latest availiable.
