Wright Name for Newbattle Abbey College's new Outdoor Learning Hub
Newbattle Abbey College has announced its new Forest College outdoor learning classroom will be known as the Peter Wright Outdoor Learning Hub.
A former student of Newbattle Abbey College, Peter, who is a youth worker, charity founder, activist, and author, has always endorsed the benefits of learning in the outdoors.
He said: “That the classroom should now have my name attached to it and all that will be carried out within those walls, whilst looking out at the College grounds, is truly a great honour.
"I’m both humbled and overjoyed with this wonderful gesture.”
“We are delighted to name our new Outdoor Learning Hub after Peter. He has inspired so many people to explore and learn in the outdoors,” said Judy Paul, Forest College Co-ordinator.
Speaking about his time at the college, Peter added: “When I was a student at the college myself, many years ago, I did think that the forest and grounds were a very underused resource.
"I loved walking there almost every day, and felt I was somehow engaging with their many natural qualities in an enriching way.
"So, it really gives me enormous pleasure to see how innovatively Newbattle Abbey College is now exploiting its nature-filled surroundings to the full – for people of all ages and for such diverse learning purposes.
"This really is blazing a trail for personal development in an outdoor setting: for which I offer my hearty congratulations to all involved.”
