27 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Edinburgh and Lothians as dozens more admitted to hospital

The latest Scottish Government figures, published at 2pm today, revealed an increase from 1,399 to 1,426 cases in the region since Monday.

The data also showed that 54 more people were in hospital – a jump from 286 to 322 – with confirmed or suspected coronavirus in the Lothians, as of midnight last night, compared to the night before, with a further two people in intensive care (a jump from 27 to 29).

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed during her daily briefing on Tuesday that a further 70 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed deaths in Scotland to 985.

National Records of Scotland (NRS) data will be published on Wednesday which will show the total number of deaths where Covid-19 was listed on the death certificate, between January 1st and Sunday April 19th.

Last Wednesday, NRS data showed that as of April 12th, 962 deaths were registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Data published last Wednesday by the NRS showed that 148 people with confirmed or suspected coronavirus had died in the NHS Lothian health board area, up to April 12th. This was an increase of 107 deaths from the previous Sunday.
