33 more Covid-19 cases confirmed in Edinburgh and Lothians as Scotland's death toll rises

The latest Scottish Government figures, published on Friday at 2pm, revealed an increase from 2,241 to 2,274 cases of the virus within the region in the past 24 hours.

It comes as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said during her daily briefing this afternoon that a further 49 people had died who tested positive for the coronavirus.

A total of 1,811 people in Scotland have now died who have tested positive for the virus.

But the latest National Records of Scotland data, published on Wednesday, shows 2,795 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned in the death certificate, as of Sunday May 3rd.

In Lothian, there have been 469 Covid-19 linked deaths recorded by the NRS.

However, between April 27th and May 3rd, 523 deaths relating to COVID-19 were registered in Scotland, a decrease of 135 from the previous week, April 20th-26th.

At her daily press briefing today, Ms Sturgeon also confirmed that 13,149 people had now tested positive for the virus in Scotland - an increase of 225.

She said 1,584 of those were receiving treatment in hospital – a decrease of three.

Eighty-four people are in intensive care across Scotland – two fewer than in the figure 24 hours ago.

Speaking from St Andrews House, Ms Sturgeon insisted again today that the lockdown measures in Scotland would remain in place.
