Ban challenge stubbed out

BRITAIN’S biggest operator of cigarette vending machines has failed to halt a law banning their use in Scotland.

Appeal judges rejected a bid by Sinclair Collis, a subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco which operates 1708 machines in Scotland, to overturn legislation outlawing vending machines in 2010.

The ban was due to come into force in October last year, but the vending machine operator challenged the ban in the Court of Session last May.
