51 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in Edinburgh and the Lothians as Scotland's death toll rises by 44

Fifty-one new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the NHS Lothian board area in the past 24 hours, as the death toll in Scotland increased by 44.

The total number of Covid-19 hospital deaths in Scotland is now 1,559, according to the Scottish Government.

There are 2,065 confirmed cases in the Lothians as of Saturday afternoon with 258 patients being treated in hospital and 15 in intensive care.

Authorities also confirmed that 11,927 people across the nation had now tested positive for the virus - an increase of 273 since yesterday.

Across Scotland, 1,674 of those were receiving treatment in hospital – a decrease of 135 in one day.

108 people are in intensive care across Scotland – two fewer than in the figure 24 hours ago.

More than a third of all Covid-19 linked deaths in Scotland are in care homes, with just over half in hospitals and nine per cent at home or other settings.
