Coronavirus in Scotland: 178 cases recorded in the Lothians today as almost 265,000 vaccinated

A total of 178 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the Lothians in the past 24 hours with 264,991 vaccinated.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also announced Scotland has recorded no deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours and 1,429 positive tests.

The death toll under this measure of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days remains at 5,305.

Speaking during the Scottish Government’s daily briefing on Tuesday, Ms Sturgeon said 163,762 people have now tested positive in Scotland.

The daily test positivity rate is 12.3%, up from 2.8% on the previous day.

Of the new cases, 451 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 244 in Lanarkshire, 178 in Lothian, and the remaining cases are spread across the other 11 health board areas.

There are 1,959 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus, up 41 in 24 hours.

Of these patients, 146 are in intensive care, a decrease of one.
