Emotional family tribute to Scottish care worker who died after contracting Covid-19

In a statement released through the GMB union, the family of Catherine Sweeney said she was a "wonderful mother, sister, and beloved aunty".
Ms Sweeney died on April 4 while being cared for at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Hide AdHer family thanked the "doctors and nurses who heroically looked after her in her final days".
Speaking at her daily media briefing yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon said the tragic news was a reminder of the dedication, expertise and courage of those working in health and social care sector north of the Border.
And there has been an outpouring of grief on social media, as members of the public paid tribute to the sacrifice made by Sweeney and other front line workers.

The statement said: "Catherine was well known, and well respected within the community of Dumbarton, where she was born and raised.

Hide Ad"She was a caring and generous person, especially when it came to her time, having dedicated over 20 years of her life as a Home Carer to unfailingly serving the needs of the most vulnerable in society.
"After a lifetime of service to the community, we know she will be sorely missed, not just by her loving family, but by many others for her incredible warmth, care, and dedication.
“A whole community shares in our grief,” it concluded.
