Nicola Sturgeon: 49 new Covid-19 deaths brings toll in Scotland to 1,811

49 more people have died in Scotland after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the death toll in Scotland by this measure to 1,811, according to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

At her daily press briefing today, Ms Sturgeon also confirmed that 13,149 people had now tested positive for the virus - an increase of 225.

She said 1,584 of those were receiving treatment in hospital – a decrease of three.

84 people are in intensive care across Scotland – two fewer than in the figure 24 hours ago.

Speaking from St Andrews House, Ms Sturgeon insisted that the lockdown measures in Scotland would remain in place.

She said there had been “helpful recognition” from Downing Street of the fact that the four nations of the UK may differ on the way restrictions are lifted.

Ms Sturgeon promised an update over the weekend on rules around outdoor exercise, which the Scottish government is currently considering relaxing.

She insisted that the Scottish government was maintaining a “very clear stay at home message”, and said the devolved administrations were still committed to “continue to coordinate planning and messaging.”
