Nostalgia: Sir Sean’s bond with his home

While Daniel Craig is once again strapping on the tuxedo for Skyfall, aficionados know there’s only one true Bond . . . and he hails from the Capital.

Sir Sean Connery has always been proud of his Edinburgh roots, and despite his international fame has been a regular visitor to 
Edinburgh over the years.

In 1976, he brought the family with him – wife Micheline and their children from other marriages, Jason Connery and Stephen – to see the gallery of his friend Richard Demarco on the Royal Mile.

Of course, he was already a major celebrity and in 1972 he found himself mobbed by fans of all ages eager for an autograph as he attended the premiere of Diamonds Are Forever at the Odeon cinema.

It wasn’t all work, though. In 1988, he was snapped practising his golf swing during a stay at the Caledonian Hotel.

And the star was joined by his brother, Neil Connery, and sister-in-law Eleanor Connery when he received an honorary degree from 
Heriot-Watt University in 1981.
