Edinburgh children receive a special message from Santa

In the absence of festive parties the Capital’s best known playground for children with additional needs The Yard has invited the families it supports to sign up for a free personalised greeting from Santa, in the form of a hand-written letter or video, filmed within The Yard Edinburgh’s outdoor Solardome-turned-grotto!

The video also features ‘Signalong’, a key word sign-supported communication system based on British Sign Language used by people with additional speech, language and communication needs.

So far, over 100 families have requested a video or letter, arriving through in-boxes and letterboxes by mid-December.

Chief Executive of The Yard Celine Sinclair said, “As we know, Christmas will be rather different this year but, whatever the circumstances, children should still be at the heart of the festive season.

“With restrictions on parties and Santa’s grotto visits, we’ve come up with a lovely treat for the children we support, creating wonderful personalised messages guaranteed to bring a smile to their faces, not-to-mention the families and friends sharing it with them.”

Although the deadline for videos has now passed, there is still a chance to sign up for a personalised letter in return for a donation to The Yard.

Ms Sinclair added: “By taking part, you’re helping ensure that we are there for disabled children and their families as we welcome a new year and beyond.”
