Long time friends Luke Cochrane, 25, and 24-year-old Guy Wardrop found themselves unsatisfied with what was on offer in the job market when they graduated from their chemical engineering course, and decided to put their heads together to create a business to fill what they saw as a gap in the canned drinks market which became Precision Spirits.

In November 2020, the duo launched their maiden product - a canned gin spritzer called Peace Lovin' Decoy which is made up of their own distilled craft gin, their own tonic water flavoured with real fruits and botanicals and their own recipe lemonade.

Now, the self-professed footy fans are launching their second product in support of team Scotland at the Euros and the beloved Tartan Army, aptly named Tartan Juice.

Luke said: “When we left university we were looking at graduate jobs and we weren’t enamoured with what was on offer, I was going into work on Monday and spending my whole time looking forward to Friday.

“Guy was thinking the same, we’d known each other since the start of university and apart from working in oil and gas there wasn’t a lot out there for us. We decided we wanted to get into the alcohol industry and offer something a bit different, we still felt like students, we know the alcohol market and we could combine what we learned in parts of our chemical engineering course.

“We decided on a gin but didn’t want to make a bottle as the market was crowded, but when we looked at the canned market a lot of what was on offer was just mundane gin and tonics so we wanted to make something with a bit of a twist.”

With the main goal to open up the appeal of gin to people who weren’t fond of gin and tonic, they decided on a gin spritzer.

After launching, a family friend of Luke’s suggested the idea of creating a limited edition product specially for the Euros.

“There are other companies out there who have brought out beers for the Euros, but nothing in the spirits market,” Luke said, “So we came up with the idea for Tartan Juice, which is our second gin spritzer and more fruity than our first product.”

Tartan Juice launches on Friday June 4 and can be purchased from the Precision Spirits website, retailing at £2.50 per can. The drinks can be purchased in packs of six, 12 or 24.
