The Melville Castle Hotel which has closed its doors without notice.

The Melville Castle Hotel had posted on its social media only days previously that it was intending to reopen in March 2021, leading to many customers with wedding bookings and voucher deals angrily looking for answers.

Some customers posted replies that this was the first they had heard it would not reopen to honour 2020 bookings, and were appalled to find out via a social media post.

One angry customer said: “You might have had the decency to tell customers directly instead of finding out this way”; while another who had previously used the venues for wedding s commented: ”My niece lost her deposit and she had already paid in full. She has been treated shockingly by Melville Castle. Had three family weddings there and there won’t be another one .”

A running theme across all the posts was that nobody from the hotel had contacted customers to let them know what was happening. The hotel’s Facebook page has been removed and when the Advertiser eventually got to speak with someone on the telephone, they would only say that the hotel was now closed - permanently - and put the phone down!

We contacted Companies House who confirmed that Melville Castle Limited was still listed as a ‘live’ company. Records show that it is a family owned company with four directors; David, Suzanne, William and Louise Hay.

The company is listed as a private limited company meaning its directors are not responsible nor have any liability for debts incurred by the business.
