A village pub in the Juniper Green area of Edinburgh has rebranded during lockdown and is ready to welcome back customers.

During lockdown landlords of The Juniper Inn, Darren Love and Corinne Jones, took the time to rebrand the bar back to its initial name of The Railway Inn.

The bar has a large beer garden and over the past few months there has been investment both inside and out.

Commenting on the rebrand, Darren Love said: “When we took over the venue last year, we found that everybody knows it as The Railway Inn and still calls it this, and so do I, so it made sense to change the name back.

"Inside we have kept the traditional look and feel but freshened it up and added some memorabilia as a nod to its historic past. Outside at the front our signage is actually printed on old wooden railway sleepers and in the rear enclosed beer garden we have created socially distancing seating areas with table and chairs, picnic style benches and a 14 foot solid wooden gazebo for the good old Scottish weather.”

Originally established as a public house in 1891, The Railway Inn was the closest pub to the Railway Station and quickly became a firm favourite with both locals and visitors to the area. Over 100 years later, the trains might have gone, but The Railway Inn remains a local institution.

Darren and Corinne have run the venue since 2018, after Darren’s uncle, Alistair, decided to sell following 27 years behind the bar.

The couple has over 30 years of experience between them in the licensed trade and are keen to keep the feel of The Railway Inn as the family run bar at the heart of the local community.

Under their management, The Railway Inn offers a family friendly atmosphere, welcoming kids from as young as five until 8pm. The bar has a big selection of beers and drinks, an impressive food menu and an enclosed big beer garden.

The Railway Inn’s beer garden is open now, with social distancing measures in place and will open fully from Wednesday 15 July but booking is highly recommended due to demand.
