In a blog post addressed to customers, Pret chief executive, Pano Christou, said: “We’ve had a great response from those ordering through our delivery partners, enjoying their Pret favourites again from home.

Mr Christou added that this has given the chain the “confidence” to reopen further stores, with 71 branches set to open from Monday 11 May, including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds.

“As the government has advised, these shops will be open for takeaway and delivery only.”

What safety measures will be in place?

As part of its phased stages of reopenings, the chain has introduced a range of new safety measures to keep both customers and staff safe.

Each shop will now be fitted with Perspex screens at the tills and restrictions will be in place on the number of customers allowed into the stores at any one time.

Safety measures include:

Customers being provided with hand sanitiser

Staff offered face coverings

Customers required to queue two metres apart

Only card payments allowed - no cash accepted

What menu will be offered?

A limited menu will be running and the chain’s stores will be operating at reduced opening hours. Delivery will be available through providers such as Deliveroo and UberEats.

Examples of what customers can order from Pret through Deliveroo include Pret’s Salad Boxsta, a Classic Super Club Granary or a Classic Lunch bundle for two people.

Pret is also currently offering an NHS 50 per cent discount until May 15.
