Mayfield project doing allot of good!

A SHORTAGE of allotment space in Midlothian is spurring the growth of landshare and community garden projects in the area.

With a 10-year wait for those already on the 55-long waiting list for one of Midlothian’s 27 plots, at Deanburn in Penicuik, and the list now closed, people without gardens are looking to alternative land in order to grow their own vegetables.

Mayfield and Easthouses Development Trust ran a successful landshare pilot last year, with produce split between a garden owner and volunteer gardener and is now looking for more people to take part.

Read about the experiences of those involved in the pilot in this week’s Advertiser.
